What kinds of AI case interview tools are there?
Three kinds, and they do different jobs. An AI interviewer runs a case at you: it reads the prompt, answers your questions, gives you exhibits and grades the result. A general assistant such as ChatGPT can be prompted into a rough version of the same thing, with no scoring rubric and no exhibits unless you supply them. A live structure coach does neither: it listens to whatever is running the case, a recording, a partner, an AI interviewer, and shows you one hint after each turn so you can compare it with what you said.
The firms themselves have a view on the first two. McKinsey’s careers page marks “Practicing interview questions” with AI as encouraged, in the same table that marks real-time answers during an interview as not allowed; the full table is quoted in the firm policies guide.
What does each tool say it does?
Road to Offer
You practice 71 McKinsey, BCG and Bain-style cases with an AI interviewer
After each case you get a debrief scored on 7 skills, with quotes from your answers and the fix for each gap.
Monthly is $49 a month, the 90-Day Sprint is $120 once, and Annual is $249 a year.
The page also says the first full case with a scored debrief is free, with graded drills and casebooks, and that the company is independent of the three largest firms.
CaseWithAI
Practice full AI mock interviews that mirror how McKinsey, BCG, and Bain actually run cases.
Instant AI feedback after every answer
Pricing on the page: a Flex plan at “$1 per credit” with a “$5 minimum purchase”, and Unlimited at “$50 per month” or “$150 for 6 months”.
ChatGPT and other general assistants
ChatGPT can be a great study partner for your case interview preparation in consulting.
A general assistant is the cheapest way to get a case read to you and your structure critiqued. It will not keep a rubric constant across sessions, it tends to agree with a confident candidate, and it has no exhibits of its own. It is good for the first twenty cases and for drilling one skill (“give me five market sizing prompts and grade my logic”), less good for judging whether you are ready.
The firms’ own practice tools
Visit our case interview tool if you are interviewing for an entry-level Consultative Offerings position.
To help you prepare for the problem-solving interview, we recommend reviewing the sample cases provided below. These cases contain logic, thought processes, and suggested answers.
Free, and the closest thing to the real format, because the firm wrote them. They are not interactive in the way an AI interviewer is; read them for the shape of the questions and the suggested answers.
Casepartner
Not an interviewer. It needs something else to run the case: a recorded mock on video, a partner on a call, or one of the AI interviewers above playing in a browser tab. Share the tab’s audio and after each interviewer turn the window shows one hint in a fixed shape. The use is the comparison: the structure it shows against the one you said, the question it would ask against the one you asked.
How do I combine them?
- Weeks 12 to 8: a general assistant for frameworks and math drills, plus the firm-published practice cases read end to end.
- Weeks 8 to 3: an AI interviewer for volume, two or three cases a week, with Casepartner listening in the same browser so each turn gets a second opinion on structure and questions.
- Weeks 3 to 0: human mocks, a partner or a coach, with no tools open. The habit has to hold without the window.
The recruiting timeline has the week numbers against the calendar; the setup guide has the two clicks to share a tab.
Questions
Can I practice case interviews with ChatGPT?
Yes, as a study partner that reads cases and critiques structures; PrepLounge says as much. It has no fixed rubric and no exhibits of its own, so use it for the first cases and for drills, not for judging readiness.
Which AI case interviewer is best?
This page does not rank them. Road to Offer and CaseWithAI both describe AI interviewers running firm-style cases with scored feedback; their own sentences and prices are above. Try the free case each offers.
Do the firms allow AI for practice?
McKinsey marks practicing interview questions with AI as encouraged and real-time answers during an interview as not allowed. Read the firm policies guide for the verbatim table.
Is Casepartner an AI interviewer?
No. It listens to whatever is running the case and shows one hint per interviewer turn. Pair it with a recording, a partner or one of the interviewers above.
