Join Zoom or Teams from the browser and share tab audio
How to join a Zoom or Teams meeting from the Chrome or Edge web client and share tab audio to Casepartner, with fixes for the five ways it goes wrong.
Updated October 28, 2026
Why the web client and not the desktop app?
Casepartner hears the interviewer through Chrome's tab audio sharing. That works for a tab, so the call has to run in a browser tab. The Zoom and Microsoft Teams desktop apps are separate programs and their audio cannot be shared this way. A desktop version of Casepartner is on the roadmap; today, join from the browser.
How do I join a Zoom meeting from the browser?
- Open the meeting link in Chrome or Edge on a computer. Mobile browsers are not supported.
- When Zoom asks you to open or download the desktop app, decline. Look for the small Join from your browser link under the download prompt; on most meetings it appears after you dismiss the app prompt once.
- Sign in if the host requires it, enter your name, and join with computer audio. Allow the microphone when Chrome asks.
- Keep this tab open. Do not switch it to the desktop app later, or the audio share breaks.
If the link never appears, the host has turned it off for that meeting. Ask the recruiter or interviewer coordinator for a browser-joinable link; most corporate accounts allow it.
How do I join a Teams meeting from the browser?
- Open the Teams meeting link in Chrome or Edge.
- Choose Continue on this browser (the wording varies by Teams version) instead of opening the Teams app.
- Allow the microphone and camera when the browser asks, set your name, and join.
How do I share tab audio to Casepartner?
- Open Casepartner in a second tab or window and start a session. The window asks you to share the meeting tab.
- In Chrome's share dialog, pick Chrome Tab, then select the meeting tab. Not the Casepartner tab.
- Turn on Share tab audio. Without it the window hears nothing.
- Click Share. Casepartner shows "Sound from the shared tab" when audio arrives, and its first hint when the interviewer stops talking.
Only the shared tab is transcribed. Your own microphone is never sent to Casepartner, and nothing is added to the meeting: the other participants see no new attendee, no bot, no indicator. The interviewer hears you exactly as before.
What goes wrong, and the fix
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "No sound from the shared tab" | Share tab audio was off, or the wrong tab was picked | Click Share again, pick the meeting tab, switch Share tab audio on |
| No Chrome Tab option in the dialog | Safari or Firefox | Use Chrome or Edge on a computer |
| The other side cannot hear you after sharing | Some Chrome versions route the microphone away while tab audio is shared | Check the meeting's mute state; unmute in the meeting tab, not in Casepartner |
| Zoom opened the desktop app | The app prompt was accepted | Leave the app, reopen the link in Chrome, decline the prompt, use Join from your browser |
| Hints stop mid-call | The meeting tab was closed or the share was stopped from Chrome's bar | Share meeting audio again from the Casepartner window |
Where should the windows sit?
One screen is enough: the call tab on the left two thirds, the Casepartner window on the right third, both visible. On a laptop, resize the call tab rather than switching tabs, because switching away from the meeting tab pauses nothing but makes you look away from the camera. The window sits in plain view on your screen.
Questions
Does it work with the Zoom or Teams desktop app?
Not yet. Join from the web client in Chrome or Edge so the tab audio can be shared. A desktop version comes later.
Does the interviewer see anything?
No. Nothing is added to the meeting: no attendee, no bot, no indicator. The window is on your screen, in plain view.
Is my microphone recorded?
No. Only the shared tab is transcribed. Your microphone is never sent to Casepartner, and nothing is recorded; the transcript is gone when you stop.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
No. Tab audio sharing works in Chrome and Edge on a computer.
