What is a live interview copilot?
Two products share the name: a panel for interviewers, and an app that writes answers for candidates. What each does, and how a case structure coach differs.

What does "interview copilot" mean?
Two things, depending on who is buying. Vendors selling to hiring teams use it for a panel the interviewer sees: it transcribes the call, suggests follow-up questions and keeps scoring consistent across candidates. Vendors selling to job seekers use the same words for an app the candidate runs during an interview: it hears the interviewer and writes answers on the candidate's screen. One product name has made the second meaning the common one in search, and that is the meaning this guide uses.
What does a candidate-side copilot do?
The largest vendor describes its own product in three sentences, quoted from its page:
Interview CoPilot™ listens through your microphone and shows private real-time guidance on your screen.
writes an answer you can say out loud on your display only.
So the defining features are: it runs during the interview, it hears the interviewer, and it produces answers in the candidate's voice. Most products in the category are built around coding and system design interviews, where a question has a checkable answer, and they extend the same design to behavioral questions by writing a story in the first person.
What is a live structure coach?
A narrower tool for a different interview. In a consulting case or fit round there is no answer to retrieve. The interviewer is listening for how you structure a problem, which number you ask for, whether you check your math, and whether your story has a shape. A script read off a screen sounds like one, and the two largest firms say real-time AI responses are not allowed in any case (the sentences are quoted in the firm policies guide).
Casepartner takes the listening part of a copilot and drops the answer part. When the interviewer stops talking, the window shows one hint under 40 words in one of a few fixed shapes, or nothing. Each shape is something to say in your own words, never a sentence to read.
| Shape | When | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | A new question lands | Three buckets: revenue mix, COGS, store opex. Ask which moved most. |
| Math check | Numbers appear | Math check: 0.8 points of $4.2B is about $34M. |
| Next question | Data arrives without a question | Ask: is shrink concentrated in fresh or spread across categories? |
| STAR skeleton | The question turns behavioral | STAR: pick the launch with the missed deadline. Stress the call you made alone. End on the number. |
| Silence | You are doing fine | Nothing. About a third of turns. |
More shapes for the exhibit read and the synthesis are shipping through December, in the same form: a label, a bold lead, under 40 words.
How do the two compare, feature by feature?
| Candidate-side copilot (typical) | Live structure coach (Casepartner) | |
|---|---|---|
| Output | Full answers in the first person | One hint under 40 words, fixed shape, or nothing |
| Interviews | Coding, system design, general behavioral | Consulting case and fit rounds only |
| Where it runs | Usually a desktop app | A Chrome or Edge tab beside the Zoom or Teams web client |
| What it hears | Microphone or system audio | The meeting tab you share; your microphone is never sent |
| Recording | Varies; the largest vendor's FAQ says its app records session audio automatically | Nothing is recorded; the transcript is gone when the session ends |
| Visibility | Varies by vendor | In plain view on your screen; Casepartner makes no claim either way |
| Built for | Live interviews | Practice; it behaves the same way live, and that choice is yours |

Is a live copilot allowed in a real interview?
The firm decides, not the product. McKinsey's careers page lists generating real-time answers during an interview as not allowed; BCG asks candidates to rely on their own responses in interviews and assessments unless it has said AI tools are allowed; Bain has published no sentence. All three are quoted verbatim with dates in the firm policies guide. Casepartner is built for practice. If you would not be comfortable telling the interviewer you used it, use it for practice only.
How do you use one for practice?
Anything playing in a browser tab works: a recorded mock interview, a casebook walkthrough on video, a partner reading cases to you over a call. Share the tab's audio and the window shows its structure after each turn, so you can compare it with the one you said out loud. Setup is two clicks; the setup guide has them.
Questions
Is Casepartner an interview copilot?
It is the listening half of one. It hears the interviewer in a shared tab and shows one hint under 40 words in a fixed shape, or nothing. It never writes an answer to read aloud.
Do AI interview copilots work for case interviews?
Most are built for coding and system design, where a question has a checkable answer. A case has no answer to retrieve; the interviewer is grading structure, questions and math. That is the gap a structure coach fills.
Does the interviewer know?
Nothing is added to the meeting: no attendee, no bot, no indicator. The window sits in plain view on your screen. Whether to use it in a real interview is your call; read the firm policies guide first.
Is anything recorded?
No. The shared tab’s audio becomes a live transcript and the transcript is gone when the session ends. Your microphone is never sent.
