Join Teams from the browser and share tab audio
How to join a Microsoft Teams meeting in Chrome or Edge instead of the app, with Microsoft’s own steps quoted, and share the tab audio to Casepartner.

Can I join a Teams meeting from the browser?
Yes. Microsoft documents it for guests and signed-in users alike. Its support page says:
You can join Teams for web on Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
That browser list is also the one Casepartner needs, because tab audio sharing works in Chrome and Edge on a computer. Safari, Firefox and mobile browsers are out on both counts.
How do I join from the browser, step by step?
Microsoft’s three steps, quoted, with what to click on each:
Open the meeting invite and select the link next to Join or select Join the meeting now.
When prompted, select Continue on this browser or Join on the Teams app.
Select Join now.
- Open the invite link in Chrome or Edge. If the link opens the Teams desktop app by itself, close the app, copy the link, and paste it into a new Chrome tab.
- On the page that offers the app, choose Continue on this browser. The wording shifts between Teams versions; the browser option is the one that does not download or open anything.
- Allow the microphone and camera when the browser asks. Microsoft’s page says: “You may be prompted to give Teams access to your mic and camera.”
- Set your name if you are joining as a guest, check the camera preview, and select Join now. If the organizer uses a lobby, wait there.
- Keep this tab open for the whole call. Do not accept a later prompt to switch to the app.
How do I share the Teams tab audio to Casepartner?
- Open Casepartner in a second tab or window and start a session. It asks you to share the meeting tab.
- In Chrome’s share dialog pick Chrome Tab, then the Teams tab. Not the Casepartner tab.
- Switch Share tab audio on, then Share. The window shows “Sound from the shared tab” when audio arrives.
Only the shared tab is transcribed. Your microphone is never sent to Casepartner, nothing is added to the meeting, and nothing is recorded. The Zoom setup guide has the share dialog drawn out and the full fix table.
What is different about Teams?
| Teams detail | What to do |
|---|---|
| The app prompt comes first, before any meeting page | Choose the browser option on that first screen; there is no second chance until you reload the link |
| Guest join may hold you in a lobby | Start the Casepartner share after you are admitted, so the first transcript turn is the interviewer, not the lobby music |
| Breakout rooms and transfers reload the page | If the Teams tab reloads, share the meeting audio again from the Casepartner window |
| Some organizations block guest web join | Ask the coordinator for a link that allows browser join, or ask them to admit you from the lobby |
| Teams can play a join chime through the tab | Harmless; the window waits for speech before it shows anything |
What goes wrong, and the fix
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The link opens the Teams app every time | Chrome is set to open Teams links in the app | Copy the link and paste it into a new tab; on the prompt choose the browser option |
| “No sound from the shared tab” | Share tab audio was off, or the wrong tab was picked | Share again, pick the Teams tab, switch Share tab audio on |
| No Chrome Tab option in the share dialog | Safari or Firefox | Use Chrome or Edge on a computer |
| Hints stop after a lobby or a transfer | The Teams tab reloaded and the share ended | Share meeting audio again from the Casepartner window |
Questions
Which browsers can join Teams on the web?
Microsoft’s support page says Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Those are also the two browsers that can share tab audio to Casepartner.
Do I need a Microsoft account?
No. Microsoft documents joining as a guest without an account; you enter a name and may wait in a lobby.
Does the interviewer see Casepartner?
Nothing is added to the meeting: no attendee, no bot, no indicator. The window sits in plain view on your screen.
Does it work with the Teams desktop app?
Not yet. Tab audio sharing works for a browser tab, so the call has to run in the web version. A desktop version of Casepartner comes later.
